     ♦ Едва он сделал шаг, как снова засвистело, и начальник связи поспешно отступил и прихлопнул дверь, - мина разорвалась метрах в десяти (Гроссман 2).He'd barely taken a step...when there was another whistle; he ducked back and closed the door as another mortar-bomb burst only ten metres away (2a).
